Polka-dot box and rack

I really like stripes, but I chose polka-dots for this little storage box. It was not this cute when I received it from a friend. They totally dumpster-dived for it. (Actually, it was left-overs from a yard sale).

I painted it brown, then gave it a few coats of white and distressed it. I figured you could buy a white one at a store and decided it needed more. I used round yard sale price tags and stuck them all over. Then I used four different colors and painted each part of the box.

Once it was dry enough, I removed the round stickers and revealed the little polka dots. I distressed it a bit more and then sealed it with water-based poly.
See, it was dark green and missing a couple of pegs. I had a few extra pegs from a previous project and was able to replace them easily. I also added 'd' rings on the back to make it easier to hang.
As of today, this is still in my etsy shop. Just waiting for the right person to snatch it up.

I love taking things that have been forgotten and giving them purpose again.

where's the red cabinet?

The first piece of furniture I refinished (and was proud of) was this little cabinet from Ethan Allen. It was in the garage of the home we moved into when I was 10 years old. My dad used it for his tools. Then, it was placed on the back patio to house the pool towels.

Well, I refinished it two times. I selected red both times. I would not say red is my favorite color, but it is one of my fave colors!

I am not sure who has this little red cabinet now. I sold it a few years ago in Boulder City, NV at a store called Goatfeathers. There will HAVE to be another one if I ever open my own shop.
Sorry that I missed yesterday. I had a big task that I needed to complete and it trumped my blog post. But, I am trying to be consistent in posting and don't want to disappoint. Thanks for reading!

The hardware was the hardest

I have finished a chest of drawers for our master bedroom. My husband is not certain if we will keep if because I tend to change my mind and sell the pieces I claim will be "ours".

The hardware is new and I love the modern and industrial touch it adds. The handles on the bottom three drawers needed new holes drilled. It was an investment of time to fill in the old holes, measure and drill new holes. Even then, with careful measuring and marking, I still was not right on. So, I had to drill more holes for some and have my husband hold the drawer in place and squeeze the handle so the screws would line up and slide into place.

The chest itself was sanded, painted, taped-off for striping, distressed a tad, glazed, and sealed. I did not paint any stripes on the side because I thought it'd be too busy.

Here is a before shot after I removed original hardware and sanded it down. (See the color swatches on the top?) There are so many great shades of gray! I am sure to use many more of them soon.

I am so glad this is done, but I loved every step of the process. :)
